Within\u00a0this framework, <strong>KATAKORYFO\u00a0SMPC<\/strong> was entrusted\u00a0with the planning\u00a0and implementation of\u00a0the\u00a0Gastronomy and Educational\u00a0Celebration for Children,\u00a0held at the\u00a0Foyer of the\u00a0Thessaloniki City Hall\u00a0during the Christmas\u00a0Market in December\u00a02025.<\/p>\n<p data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"3\">The event aimed\u00a0to raise\u00a0children's awareness of\u00a0the UNESCO Creative\u00a0Cities Network and\u00a0Thessaloniki's role as\u00a0a UNESCO City\u00a0of Gastronomy, while\u00a0promoting\u00a0the values of\u00a0sustainable nutrition,\u00a0environmental responsibility, and food waste\u00a0reduction. At the same\u00a0time, it showcased\u00a0the city's cultural\u00a0identity through traditional\u00a0Christmas customs and\u00a0encouraged participants\u00a0to connect with\u00a0local producers and\u00a0regional products, highlighting\u00a0seasonality, local sourcing,\u00a0and the nutritional\u00a0value of food.<\/p>\n<p data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"4\">The celebration featured a variety of interactive activities in which children and students prepared traditional Greek Christmas sweets, including <em>melomakarona<\/em>,\u00a0<em>kourabiedes<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>diples<\/em>, while learning about their history, their connection to local traditions, and the importance of supporting local producers, reducing food waste, and protecting the environment. In parallel, renowned chefs from Thessaloniki presented original recipes using locally sourced ingredients, offering visitors a unique gastronomic experience and creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated the city's rich culinary and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Project Scope:<\/h3>\n<p data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"6\"><strong>KATAKORYFO SMPC<\/strong> was\u00a0responsible for the\u00a0comprehensive planning,\u00a0organization, and implementation\u00a0of the event, ensuring high-quality\u00a0execution, safety, and professionalism\u00a0throughout all stages\u00a0of the project.<\/p>\n<p>The scope of work included:<\/p>\n<ul data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"7\">\n<li>Planning, preparation, and\u00a0specialized organization\u00a0of the\u00a0Gastronomy and Educational\u00a0Celebration in full\u00a0compliance with health\u00a0and safety requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Development of the\u00a0detailed event program,\u00a0coordination, and implementation\u00a0of workshops on\u00a0traditional Christmas pastry\u00a0making, local gastronomy, sustainable nutrition,\u00a0food waste reduction, recycling\u00a0practices, and environmental\u00a0awareness.<\/li>\n<li>Recruitment, management, and coordination of the event staff, including:\n<ul>\n<li>one DJ providing music and entertainment;<\/li>\n<li>one performer portraying Santa Claus;<\/li>\n<li>three performers portraying Christmas elves responsible for facilitating and supporting the cooking workshops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of the\u00a0venue, installation and\u00a0decoration of the\u00a0workshop areas, and\u00a0provision of all\u00a0necessary consumable materials, equipment, and\u00a0logistical infrastructure\u00a0required for the\u00a0successful implementation\u00a0of the activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"8\"><strong>KATAKORYFO SMPC<\/strong> was\u00a0also responsible for\u00a0the\u00a0overall project coordination, communication with the\u00a0Municipality and participating\u00a0stakeholders, organization\u00a0of staff and\u00a0visitor flow, and\u00a0compliance with all\u00a0operational, health, and safety\u00a0requirements, ensuring\u00a0the successful delivery\u00a0of the event.<\/p>\n<p data-assistant-stream-block=\"\" data-assistant-stream-block-index=\"9\">The project was\u00a0completed successfully,\u00a0providing children and\u00a0visitors with an\u00a0engaging hands-on\u00a0experience that combined\u00a0gastronomy, education,\u00a0and culture while\u00a0promoting sustainable nutrition, local food production, and the gastronomic\u00a0identity of Thessaloniki within the\u00a0framework of the\u00a0UNESCO Creative Cities\u00a0Network.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Project Environment: The Department of\u00a0Tourism of the\u00a0Municipality of Thessaloniki,\u00a0as a member\u00a0of the UNESCO\u00a0Creative Cities Network\u00a0for Gastronomy, implements\u00a0and supports initiatives\u00a0that promote local\u00a0gastronomic culture, education, and public awareness.
