Project Environment:
The Municipality of Heraklion, Crete, is implementing the project “Creation of a Permanent Exhibition of National Resistance Memorabilia at Stoa Makasi” as part of initiatives aimed at educating and raising awareness among the public, particularly students and visitors, about the history of the National Resistance in Crete during World War II.
The program highlights the historical and cultural significance of the events of the occupation and the Resistance in Crete, utilizing educational and digital tools to encourage reflection on collective memory, experiential learning, and the importance of historical documentation.
KATAKORYFO SMPC is supporting the project through the production of digital applications, interactive content, and high-quality electronic equipment, contributing to the dissemination of the program and enhancing the experiential journey of visitors.
Project Scope:
KATAKORYFO SMPC is responsible for the full implementation of Section B of the project, which includes the development of interactive applications, the official web portal, and the supply of electronic equipment for the exhibition at Stoa Makasi.
The project is designed to combine educational, historical, and interactive dimensions, enriching visitors’ experiences through digital media, interactive maps, timelines, and digital guide applications.
Specifically, the scope includes:

Study and design of educational and scientific content, in collaboration with historians and researchers, to document and present the events of the National Resistance in Crete.

Design and development of interactive applications for touchscreen displays, including:

Interactive timeline of the German Occupation in Greece and Crete

Interactive timeline of World War II on a global scale

Interactive map with key sites of resistance in Crete

“Personalities” interactive application highlighting heroes and historical events

On-site navigation application via QR codes and mobile app

Software for controlling a complex projection system

Design and development of the project’s web portal as a digital platform for information and educational dissemination, with search, personalization, and accessibility features for all users.

Supply and installation of electronic and audiovisual equipment, including touchscreen displays, projectors, sound systems, UPS units, and computing systems, fully integrated with the interactive applications and digital guide.

Technical support and completion of all applications and equipment functionality, ensuring a consistent and safe experience for visitors of all ages.
The project’s implementation is based on modern digital design, educational technology, and interactive storytelling methods, ensuring a high-quality aesthetic result, functionality, and accessibility for all.
Upon completion, KATAKORYFO SMPC will contribute decisively to the creation of an innovative, scientifically substantiated, permanent exhibition that enhances knowledge, awareness, and visitor experience regarding the National Resistance of Crete.
